The Proviso East NHS Joins 5K Run to Help Raise Money for Education

The Proviso East National Honor Society recently participated in the 12th Annual Golden Apple 5K Run, which rose over $12,000 to support educational initiatives.

The Golden Apple 5K Run takes place every year in Forest Park, Illinois. This year, the education run attracted over 388 participants from across the state and rose over $12,000. The money raised during the Golden Apple run will be used to support current and aspiring teachers.

Proviso East National Honor Society members Darvis PridGeon, Jarrett Artis, DeShaun Adams, Dinishia Wolford, Angela Hamilton, Deja Anderson, Brandon Minor, Jamie Tramil, and Elaina Buckner participated in the run. They were organized and supported by Proviso East faculty: Meghan Cahill, Glenn Lid, Ezra PridGeon, and PTHS 209 Board Member Robert Cox. All joined the race representing the Proviso East Mighty Pirates.

“The race was a lot of fun,” said Jamie Tramil, a Proviso East senior and NHS member. “As NHS members, it was important that we show community service by joining this cause. We also we wanted to support our teacher, Glen Lid, who is a Golden Apple Scholar.”

Tramil says she hopes to be an educator someday and, ike Glen Lid, become a Golden Apple Scholar.

The Golden Apple Foundation has been working for over 24 years to provide support for teachers.  This is done through teacher recognition, teacher workshops, and a teacher recruitment program that pays for the education of students who want to become educators.

Proviso East’s National Honor Society hopes to continue their support for the Golden Apple Foundation and the overall community by participating in the 5K run every year.
