Proviso East Marching Band to Lead Chicago’s 77th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Proviso East Marching Pirates, Santa Clause, Barnum and Bailey Circus, Ronald McDonald and a cast of over 77 performers will wow the crowds once again this year at Chicago’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 25, 2010.

The Marching Pirates were chosen for a second time to be the high school band to lead the Thanksgiving Day Parade down State Street.  Each year the holiday extravaganza draws over 300,000 spectators. About 72 million viewers watch from their homes on cable television nationwide.  The McDonald's Thanksgiving Day parade is one of only three parades in the country to be covered live on national television—which once again places the Proviso East band on a national stage.

“For our students to be exposed to a different environment when they perform is always a great opportunity,” said Proviso East band assistant Wardell Dobbins who graduated from Proviso East in 2003. “For the school to receive that kind of national exposure is not only good for the band, but it’s also good to see something this positive from our community.”

Students are excited to have been selected twice for such a prestigious role. They say their hard work helped set them apart from other bands across the region.

“It’s exciting really for us,” said Proviso East senior band dancer Angela Martin. “We think it is a great thing. There are a lot of bands out here, but they picked Proviso East to be the leaders. They picked us because we are the best.”

Proviso East senior Monte Johnson agreed.

“This is a great opportunity for us and I think it will be fun,” said Johnson, who plays trumpet. “We work hard. That’s why we keep getting chosen. We really put forth the effort. We are going to go out there and have fun, make sure we play the right notes, and entertain.”

The 77th annual McDonald's Thanksgiving Parade will be marching down State Street on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
