Proviso East High School Calls Parents to Action: Active Parents = Successful Students

Proviso East High School is launching a new parent action initiative to promote parental engagement and community support for the success of Proviso East students.

“The Proviso East Parent School Partnership (PSP) Program was established to provide a forum for sharing information with our parents that will better enable them to support their children in school,” said Proviso East Principal Milton Patch. “We want to bring the parents into the school each month, provide a meaningful program on the selected topic, and give parents access to teachers, administrators and outside partners. Research shows that this kind of meaningful exchange of information and open access to school personnel can help lead to improved outcomes for students. Our belief is that success in educating students depends to a large degree on creating and nurturing meaningful relationships with parents.”

In September Proviso East High School began to host a variety of workshops, informational sessions, and group discussions. Each month Proviso East will have a theme approach to enable parents to become more engaged with the school and student activities.

“We constantly encourage parental involvement in each of our schools,” said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. “At Proviso East High School they have gone the extra mile by presenting additional opportunities for parents, students, and school officials to come together and discuss some of the most pertinent issues affecting our students. These workshops and sessions will be informational and supportive. They will also provide yet another bridge for connecting parents with the inner workings of our school system. Parents are our number one partners. We are extremely excited about the potential to build stronger partnerships that support the success of our students.”

All parents who are interested in participating in the PSP are welcome to attend. No RSVP is required. However, parents may email their contact information and their students’ ID information to psp@pths209.org to make the school aware of their interests or to send particular questions or concerns or call Proviso East’s main office at 708.202.4100. Please see below for the list of upcoming topics.
