Proviso East Instructor Selected as Presidential Award Finalist

The Illinois State Selection Committee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Program has selected Glenn Lid, of Proviso East High School, as one of the three state-level finalists in science.

Lid was chosen for demonstrating excellence as an educator and will automatically be a candidate for a state Presidential Award, the highest teacher award in the nation.

PTHS 209 Superintendent congratulated Mr. Lid on his great accomplishment.

“We always encourage our teachers to demonstrate excellence,” said Collins-Hart. “Mr. Lid does that whether he is in the classroom, on the baseball field, or at the wrestling mat. We are so proud of him. We are fortunate to have him on our faculty.”

Proviso East Principal Milton Patched expressed similar sentiment.

“We are so proud to see that one of our colleagues has been selected to receive such a prestigious award,” said Patch. “Glenn’s talent and skills are an asset to our students. He is an inspiration to them and to our faculty.”

Lid says his award is confirmation that the teachers at Proviso are implementing sound educational practices.

“This is a testament to the rest of the teachers’ abilities here that care so much for our students,” said Lid.

Lid thanked his students, PTHS parents, and his colleagues for their support and assistance. Lid will be honored in conjunction with the Illinois Science Teachers Association conference this year on November 12-14.
