Brown, who is a 2001 graduate of Proviso East High School, has brought home a victory for his family, Proviso East High School, and the entire PTHS community.
“Brown’s accomplishments, determination, and drive are exemplary of what Proviso students can achieve,” said Proviso East Principal Milton Patch. “This young man continues to give back to his community and represents Maywood with so much pride. He actively demonstrates what PTHS is about—perseverance, fortitude and success.”
Brown, a guard, averaged 13.1 minutes while playing in 21 of the Lakers’ 23 playoff games, scoring 4.9 points per game. According to Free Press, Brown told the Boston Globe he hopes to be the grand marshal in a parade right here in his hometown of Maywood, Ill., to celebrate his championship title.
“It’s unbelievable,” Brown said to Free Press. “It’s amazing even to be in this position.”
The district is in the process of planning a parade to honor Shannon Brown and celebrate his success. Brown represents Proviso East’s newest generation of star athletes. Past NBA Champs include Michael Finley, 2007 NBA Champ (San Antonio Spurs) and Glen “Doc” Rivers (2008) of the Boston Celtics.
Finley and Brown will host a basketball camp this summer at Proviso East High School. Brown will host his 2nd free youth basketball camp, The Flight Academy, on July 20-24. During that time, the Proviso Township Community will welcome back the NBA Champ with a hometown parade celebration.
Congratulations Shannon! We are so proud of you!
