Proviso East High School has been granted accreditation from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) for the next five years beginning in 2010. Proviso East was commended by NCA officials for its dedication to student achievement.
“I offer my congratulations to Proviso East High School’s administrators and staff for this accomplishment,” said Illinois NCA State Director, Susie Morrison. “Their dedication to achieving AdvancED/ NSA CASI accreditation demonstrates an ongoing commitment to making a difference in the lives of students, and to helping each and every student reach their full potential. Their commitment to raising student achievement should be commended.”
The acknowledgement and accreditation comes after an intense evaluation of the school’s educational programs, processes, and overall school climate.
To achieve accreditation, schools must meet high standards; engage in continuous improvement; and demonstrate quality assurance through external review by a team of professionals aimed at increasing student performance. The accreditation process is voluntary and requires periodic review.
“NCA accreditation demonstrates to our students, parents, and community that we are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective institution staffed by highly qualified educators,” stated Proviso East Principal Milton Patch. “Students are the ultimate beneficiaries of the accreditation process. When our school is aligned and focused on a shared vision for student learning, they win. They are benefitting because we have an enhanced focus on their performance and are working together to coordinate efforts as they move from one level of schooling to another.”
The goal of accreditation is to evaluate, verify, and improve a school’s quality with a focus on continuous improvement so that PTHS educators can deliver world class education. PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart congratulated Proviso East on their success and their continuous focus on school improvement.
“The real value of NCA CASI accreditation is the focus on improvement,” said Dr. Collins-Hart. “The accreditation process focuses our schools and staff on analyzing student performance data, identifying areas to strengthen, and developing clear goals and plans for improvement. We regularly assess and measure our progress in all of our schools and in all standard areas. NCA CASI holds us accountable for demonstrating growth. The process keeps everyone in the building and in our school system focused on raising student achievement.”
All PTHS schools participate in the NCA accreditation process. Proviso East and Proviso West High Schools are both NCA CASI accredited. PMSA will undergo the accreditation process this school year. To learn more about NCA CASI accreditation visit www.advanc-ed.org.
