Proviso East Junior and all-star baseball player, Darvis PridGeon, was invited to represent Team Illinois in the famous Oklahoma 33rd Sunbelt Baseball Classic.
The Sunbelt Classic features some of the best baseball players in the region, high school all-stars, recent draftees, and the future of Major League Baseball.
PridGeon was chosen to travel to Oklahoma with Team Illinois after his performance in the Stevenson Junior All-Star Classic where he went 1 for 2 with a double, and played center field for 5 of nine innings.
“This was my first time ever being invited to something as great as this [Oklahoma’s 33rd Sunbelt Baseball Classic]. It was really exciting,” said PridGeon.
At the Sunbelt Classic, PridGeon competed against senior class Division 1 prospects from Canada, Texas, Georgia, Maryland, Arizona, Ohio, and Oklahoma.
“It was a great experience,” said PridGeon. “The camp was competitive and intense. It helps improve skills. It makes you a better person and player. A lot of people don’t get an opportunity to do things like this. I’m blessed and grateful. This just helps me to keep practicing and working hard. It pays off and it feels good to just be yourself, work hard, and have fun doing it.”
PridGeon batted 400 at Sunbelt Classic. He played center field, right field, and pitched. He also went 1 for 2 against Arizona, and scored against the host team, Oklahoma. He pitched 5 innings, only allowing 4 earned runs against Texas, 1 for 3 against Georgia, and was a pitch runner against Ohio.
In his senior year, PridGeon hopes to help lead the Proviso East Baseball team in winning the Illinois State Championship Title.
Congratulations Darvis! We are proud of you!
