Proviso East principals, faculty, and staff have come together to create a new tutoring center for students to learn, study, seek extra helps, and improve academic performance. They call it “The Think Tank.”
This week, Proviso East principal Milton Patch and assistant principal Dan Johnson announced the opening of their new after school tutoring center. The “Think Tank” is located on the second floor of the high school across from the library. Tutoring will be available for all students Monday- Friday from 3:15 p.m. (after school) until 4:30 p.m.
“The whole idea is to make this a place where kids will want to come,” said Proviso East Principal Mr. Patch. “We are offering them a one-on-one setting where they can get help.”
Proviso East assistant principal Mr. Johnson said, “When we talk about school improvement and raising student achievement, we know that the grade distribution is different for kids who attend tutoring. When students show up, we will be ready. When students come in and they are looking for help, there will be someone here to help them.”
Over 24 Proviso East faculty and staff volunteered to tutor and help support students.
“Our kids need the support of the staff,” said Proviso East algebra teacher and Think Tank tutor Ms. Bock. “One hour a week is not too much to ask. We want to be here for our students.”
“This can work,” said Proviso East social worker and Think Tank tutor Ms. Murchison. “I think it can be a success. One-on-one attention helps students. It gets them invested in their own success.”
“The Think Tank” is now open for business. To find out how your student can get extra help or to volunteer, please contact Mr. Patch at 708.202.1611.
Thank you Think Tank Tutors! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
